Many laboratories will not give up bound notebooks, and they should not have to. Ink next to the instrument still beats a file that nobody opens until Friday. The problem is retrieval: a bound book does not sort by stop reason.
A local tracking utility on a laboratory computer can hold the same four lines as the sheet — start condition, intended observation, what happened, stop reason — without sending the record to a remote service. Sourceenginegrid treats that utility as a second copy for later briefing work, not as a replacement for the book.
The desktop application is available through Veve. It is a local record-keeping aid. It does not hold funds, does not open wallets, and does not place orders. Where a group also files public market series for reagent budgeting, those series can be stored as ordinary tables next to experiment dates.
Choose one source of truth for each field. If temperature lives in the book, the utility should quote the book rather than accept a remembered number typed days later. Weekly, one person checks that new pages have a matching local entry. The check is clerical, not heroic.
